This sale is for a fully reconditioned legendary Leitz Orthoplan Widefield Trinocular Smith-T DIC Research Microscope. In my opinion this was one of the best microscopes ever made.
The build quality of the Orthoplan is second to none; finest German engineering that money could buy. This particular model has been fully serviced and retrofitted with a 10W LED illuminator. I can also supply this microscope with the original 100W Halogen lamp holder and Original variable 100W (8.5A), low voltage power supply unit if required (please enquire, contact us).
This instrument is a fully functional transmitted light biological differential Interference microscope which gives superb images with all three supplied NPL interference contrast Smith-T (Interf.-Kontrast T) objective lenses. The objectives are a finite type and corrected for a tube length of 170mm.
As you can see from the listing images both condenser and Smith-T DIC nosepiece are matching (both bear the number ’550’). With this particular Smith-T DIC set, the Interf.-Kontrast T objectives are factory aligned into the nosepiece and are not removable. The factory alignment of the Wollaston prisms in both the turret condenser and the back focal plane of each objective give precise alignment and dispense the need for the user to spend a lot of time and effort in the complicated alignment process.
The Modified Zernike type phase condenser is fitted with 3 different prisms on a rotating turret; 25x, 40x and 100x. There is also a phase 1 (Phaco 1) annular light ring installed in case the user wishes to install a 10x or 16x ‘Spotting/scanning phase Objective.
The viewing head is equipped with wide field GW10x oculars and the 38mm ID photo-port can accommodate a camera adapter for attachment of a dSLR or c-mount scientific imaging camera (please enquire if required).

We offer a 1 year guarantee on all reconditioned and new microscopes. All servicing and repairs are undertaken by ourselves and carefully selected specialist repairers worldwide.
This is both a fully functional high quality biological research microscope and a legendary collector’s instrument. Any viewing and tests are welcomed at my location in Suffolk, England.
